About 30 time studies of harvest operations accomplished

Since the beginning of the CREFF running period, about 30 time studies have been carried out by WP2 (FVA), analyzing and comparing harvest operations with different harvesting machines.

Harvesting operations cause up to 50% of the total SRC production costs and is therefor a crucial factor for the efficiency increase of SRC management. Especially on small field sizes or steep and wet areas, fully mechanized harvesting is often impossible. In those cases, only semi-mechanised or feller-buncher harvesting is a viable option. So far, these systems are neither effective and nor cost-efficient enough for an economically viable SRC Management on the mentioned marginal sites.
The analysis of different harvesting systems will provide important information on the quality, cost and capacity performance under the mentioned site conditions of each system. The collected data will serve furtheron as a basis for the development of improved and efficient harvesting and logistics systems.
So far time studies have been carried out for cutter-chipper, tractor mounted cutter-chipper, feller-collecter (Stemster), feller-bundler and motor manual
harvest systems.
